New Mechanisms underway to Curtail Highway Damages During Natural Disasters,- Minister of  Works

 From Abdulwahab Muhammad,Bauchi

The Federal Government says it has resolved to introduce new mechanisms to tackle persistent damages and cutoffs of Federal  Highways during flooding and other natural disasters.

The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, stated this after inspecting the Kano-Maiduguri and Bauchi-Jigawa Federal Highways, recently destroyed by  floods in Bauchi North and Central.

The Minister Senator Umahi, was accompanied by the Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Muhammad, frowned at some contractors handling federal road constructions for not abiding by the contractual agreement.

He said that the Federal Ministry of Works would henceforth closely monitor constructions and supervise completion points to avoid substandard projects.

The Minister commended Governor Bala for his prompt intervention on the affected roads, which eased movement and assured the people that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had directed the immediate rehabilitation of damaged sections.

Umahi extended presidential commiseration to the government and people of Bauchi State, praying for the repose of departed souls.

Governor Bala Muhammad commended President Tinubu for his swift response to the incident, describing it as the will of Almighty God.

He said that his administration had employed modalities aimed at maintaining all federal government roads passing through Bauchi State, subject to federal government approval.

End.
