Bauchi PDP Media Aide Resigns Over Five Months of Unpaid Salary

From:Abdulwahab Muhammad Bauchi

Muazu A.S. Hardawa, the Special Assistant on Media to the Bauchi State Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), has resigned from his position due to unpaid salaries spanning five months.

Hardawa, who was appointed on July 3, 2020, initially served under former PDP Chairman Hon. Hamza Koshe Akuyam. Following the PDP State Congress on August 31, 2024, he retained his position under the new leadership of Pharmacist Samaila Burga.

Unresolved Salary Dispute

In his resignation letter addressed to the Bauchi PDP Chairman, Hardawa expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve but cited financial hardship due to non-payment of his wages.

"Upon Hon. Burga's assumption of office on September 4, 2024, I promptly introduced myself to him at the PDP office," Hardawa stated. He added that the State Secretary, Hon. Bakoji Aliyu Bobbo, and the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Hon. Adamu Babayo Gabarin, formally reintroduced him to the new chairman, who approved the continuation of his salary payments.

However, despite performing his duties diligently, Hardawa said he had yet to receive any payment after five months of service. Multiple efforts to resolve the issue through the State Secretary were unsuccessful.

After direct appeals to Chairman Burga, Hardawa was assured that his outstanding salary would be settled, even if it had to be paid personally by the chairman. However, no payment materialized.

Following the resignation of Hon. Adamu Babayo Gabarin on January 8, 2025, Burga reiterated his directive to settle Hardawa’s outstanding salary, but the issue remained unresolved.

On February 14, 2025, an exasperated Chairman Burga reportedly summoned the State Secretary, Hon. Bakoji Bobbo, to address the matter. However, with no resolution in sight, Hardawa ultimately decided to resign.

Years of Service to PDP

Hardawa highlighted his longstanding contributions to the PDP, dating back to Governor Ahmed Mu'azu’s administration.

He served as the Editor of the PDP-sponsored newspaper, Tanadin Alleri, funded by notable figures such as Hon. Bala Dambam, former Minister of Defence Yayale Ahmed, and Jarman Bauchi Alhaji Garba Noma.

Under Senator Abdul Ningi, he continued as Editor of Koda Naka in 2014 and later worked as Editor of Gyara Kayanka during Governor Isa Yuguda’s tenure.

Hardawa also played a role in the media strategy for Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir’s election campaign, which led to his victory as Bauchi State Governor. Following Mohammed’s inauguration, Hardawa was appointed Special Assistant on Media to the PDP State Chairman.

Despite facing threats and intimidation from opposition parties and security agencies, Hardawa remained committed to promoting the party’s vision. However, his recent financial struggles prompted his resignation.

Commitment to PDP Continues

While stepping down from his official role, Hardawa reaffirmed his commitment to supporting PDP and Governor Bala Mohammed as an independent journalist.

"I pray for the continued success of the party and its administration," he concluded.

His resignation has raised concerns about welfare issues within PDP leadership, sparking discussions on the treatment of party officials and the financial management within the state chapter.
