Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi Foundation Challenges El-Rufai: A Call for Justice
By Ahmad Saka, Bauchi
Tensions have escalated as the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation has issued a stern ultimatum to former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, demanding a public apology for alleged injustices against the foundation, its students, and its revered leader, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi. Failure to comply by the end of Ramadan, the foundation warns, will trigger legal action and international human rights intervention.
The foundation’s Director General of Education and School Services, Sayyadi Aliyu Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, released a strongly-worded statement detailing a series of violent crackdowns on Tsangaya schools, allegedly carried out under El-Rufai’s administration. According to him, security forces—acting on El-Rufai’s directives—raided Qur’anic schools at night, brutalized students and staff, and forcefully evacuated pupils under false pretenses.
Some of these pupils, Sayyadi claimed, remain unaccounted for to this day. Even Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s own home was not spared, as members of his family allegedly suffered physical attacks in what the foundation describes as a clear attempt to intimidate and humiliate one of Nigeria’s most respected Islamic scholars.
"These were not isolated incidents but part of a deliberate attempt to undermine Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s lifelong work in education and peacebuilding," Sayyadi stated.
Despite the provocations, the Sheikh, known for his pacifist teachings, chose peace over retaliation, preventing what could have spiraled into a nationwide crisis.
The Demand for Accountability
The foundation has now drawn a line, insisting that patience does not equate to impunity. They are demanding that El-Rufai take full responsibility for his alleged abuses of power.
"El-Rufai has until the end of this Ramadan to issue a public apology. If he fails to do so, we will escalate this matter to the Nigerian government, human rights organizations, and the courts."
In addition to legal action, the foundation is also warning political parties against embracing El-Rufai, emphasizing that those who claim to stand for justice must not ignore his alleged history of oppression.
"El-Rufai is not a victim—he is an oppressor. Any party that aligns with him must acknowledge the damage he has inflicted on innocent lives."
What Comes Next?
This standoff has placed El-Rufai in the spotlight once again, stirring debates about his leadership style, human rights, and the limits of state power. With the Ramadan deadline looming, political observers are keenly watching to see whether El-Rufai will respond, remain silent, or face legal action.
For now, the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation remains resolute: they will not allow the alleged injustices to be forgotten. Their next steps, should El-Rufai fail to apologize, could have far-reaching political and legal consequences.
