Gombe State Takes Bold Step: Governor Inuwa Yahaya Signs GOSTEC Law 2025

In a significant move aimed at improving public safety, traffic control, and environmental protection, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has signed into law the Gombe State Security, Traffic and Environmental Commission Law, 2025. This new legislation marks the birth of the Gombe State Security, Traffic and Environmental Commission—better known as GOSTEC.

Passed by the Gombe State House of Assembly earlier on February 25, 2025, the law replaces the outdated Gombe State Agency for Social Services Law, 2018. With this new legal framework in place, GOSTEC is now fully empowered to operate as a state-owned outfit supporting security efforts, managing traffic, and safeguarding the environment.

So, what does this mean for the people of Gombe?

It means a more organized, coordinated approach to handling some of the most pressing issues affecting daily life—security, traffic, and environmental health. GOSTEC isn’t here to replace conventional security agencies but to complement them, working hand-in-hand to ensure peace, order, and cleanliness in our communities.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s administration has already taken bold steps in the past few months, including the distribution of 50 operational vehicles to security agencies and hosting two high-level security summits. These actions show a clear pattern: a government that’s not waiting for problems to escalate before acting.

With the establishment of GOSTEC, the state is setting the pace for other regions by institutionalizing a homegrown, multi-functional commission that meets the specific needs of its people.

Today, in a symbolic handover, the

Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, presented an official copy of the law to the Director General of GOSTEC, retired Deputy Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bappah. His role? To steer the Commission toward fulfilling its mandate for the greater good of Gombe State.

This is more than just a new law—it’s a new chapter in Gombe’s journey toward sustainable peace, improved traffic flow, and a cleaner, healthier environment.

Stay tuned. GOSTEC is just getting started.

End
