Shock and Tragedy in Bauchi: Former LG Chairman Killed in Alleged Family-Linked Attack
Bauchi woke up to grim news on May 2nd, as a respected elder in the community — Isa Muhammad Wabi, former Chairman of Jama'are Local Government Area — was found brutally attacked in his own home. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of the morning at Fadaman Mada, behind Government Girls Secondary School, has left many stunned.
According to police reports, the attack happened around 3:00 a.m. when two young men allegedly entered Mr. Wabi’s home. These weren’t strangers — they were known acquaintances of his son, Abdulgafar Isa Mohammed. What followed was a violent altercation that left Mr. Wabi with multiple stab wounds to the neck. He was rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, but tragically, he didn’t survive.
One of the alleged attackers, identified as Faruk Malami, also known by the nickname Ajebo, didn’t make it out of the scene alive either. He was found unconscious, believed to have been attacked in retaliation during or after the incident. He was also declared dead at the hospital.
The victim’s son, Abdulgafar, has been taken into custody and is said to be cooperating with investigators. Another suspect, Ahmad Abdulkadir (Abba), is currently being tracked down.
The Bauchi State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation. The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, personally visited the bereaved family to offer condolences and assured them that justice will be pursued without compromise.
This tragedy is more than just another line in a crime bulletin — it’s a deep wound to a family and a community. The fact that this incident may have roots within the victim’s close circle makes it all the more painful and unsettling.
For now, questions hang in the air: What led to this breakdown? Was this premeditated or spontaneous? How did a night in Bauchi end with two deaths — one of them a respected elder — and a family torn apart?
Police are promising answers. The public, still in shock, is waiting.
