WORKERS’ DAY 2025 MESSAGE FROM SENATOR SHEHU BUBA (BAUCHI SOUTH)

Fellow compatriots, industrious men and women of Bauchi State,
Today, I join millions of Nigerians and the global workforce to celebrate Workers’ Day 2025—a day dedicated to honouring your strength, sacrifice, resilience, and the vital role you play in shaping our communities, our economy, and our future.
As your representative in the National Assembly, I, Senator Shehu Buba, stand in solidarity with every worker in Bauchi South and beyond—from the farmer in Tafawa Balewa, to the teacher in Alkaleri, the artisan in Dass, the trader in Bogoro, and the health worker in Toro. You are the heartbeat of our society, and today is a day to thank you sincerely.
Let me reaffirm my unwavering belief that the dignity of labour must be matched with the dignity of life. It is in this spirit that I have made empowerment and opportunity creation the cornerstones of my service.
In the last year, together we have:
- Awarded scholarships to over 400 students, helping to prepare the next generation of skilled workers.
- Trained 100 youths in solar power installation, each equipped with toolkits to begin their entrepreneurial journey.
- Empowered over 2,000 farmers—especially women and youths—with hybrid seeds, fertilizers, and modern equipment to boost food production and rural livelihoods.
- Distributed over 1,000 motorcycles, 500 tricycles, and 1,000 sewing machines, creating opportunities for thousands to earn a living.
- Supported Islamiyya teachers and students with financial palliatives, recognizing the spiritual and educational contributions they make to our society.
- Commissioned critical infrastructure, such as the 2.5km road in Zaranda Gari, to improve access to markets and services.
These are not just projects—they are steps towards dignity, self-reliance, and economic justice for all.
Dear workers, as we celebrate today, let me assure you that my commitment to your welfare remains stronger than ever. I will continue to champion laws and initiatives that protect workers’ rights, promote skills acquisition, encourage job creation, and fight poverty at every level.
On this Workers’ Day, I call on governments, private sector leaders, and fellow lawmakers to prioritize the Nigerian worker—not just in words, but in policy and action.
Let us build a Bauchi State—and a Nigeria—where hard work is rewarded, where effort is respected, and where every citizen can thrive with pride.
