Eid-el-Kabir in Gombe: Governor Inuwa Yahaya, Emir, UN Envoy Observe Eid Prayers Amidst Messages of Sacrifice and Peace

Gombe City came alive with spiritual fervor and unity on Friday, 6th June 2025, as thousands of Muslim faithful gathered at the Central Eid Ground to mark the Eid-el-Kabir celebration. Leading the congregation was Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, joined by the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, CFR, and the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohammed Fall.

The solemn two raka’at congregational prayer, symbolizing obedience and devotion in the tradition of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), was led by the Deputy Chief Imam of the Gombe Central Mosque, Ustaz Aliyu Hammari.

Also in attendance were senior government officials, traditional leaders, and dignitaries from within and outside the state.

This year’s prayer gathering was notably well-coordinated, with a strong focus on crowd safety. In a display of foresight and leadership, Governor Inuwa Yahaya instructed that worshippers be allowed to exit the Eid ground peacefully and without obstruction before his own departure — a move widely applauded as a sign of humility and concern for public safety.

Following the prayer, Governor Yahaya hosted a modest but warm Sallah reception at the Government House Banquet Hall, welcoming the visiting UN envoy, government officials, and other special guests.

In his message to the people of Gombe State and the Muslim Ummah at large, the Governor expressed deep gratitude to Almighty Allah for the blessing of witnessing another Eid. He extended his heartfelt felicitations, urging everyone to reflect on the enduring lessons of Eid-el-Kabir — faith, sacrifice, obedience, and compassion.

“As we mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir, let us reflect on its core message, which is total submission, obedience, selflessness, and unwavering faith,” Governor Yahaya said.

He emphasized the core Islamic values of peace, tolerance, modesty, and love, reminding citizens that these ideals should continue to guide both individual conduct and collective progress as a people.

The 2025 Eid celebration in Gombe was not just a spiritual milestone — it was a moment of renewed commitment to leadership, unity, and community-focused governance.
