The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has joined the nation in mourning the passing of one of Nigeria’s most respected scholars and statesmen, Professor Jubril Aminu, who died earlier today.
Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Professor Aminu as a towering figure whose contributions to Nigeria’s academic, diplomatic, and political spheres will remain indelible.
“Professor Aminu was a man of uncommon intellect, integrity, and service,” Governor Inuwa Yahaya said in a statement issued on behalf of the Forum. “His life was devoted to Nigeria — from the classroom to the Senate chamber, from ministerial offices to foreign missions. He exemplified excellence at every stage.”
Born in Adamawa State, Professor Jubril Aminu held numerous key national positions, including Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Minister of Education, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Ambassador to the United States, and later, Senator for Adamawa Central. His career reflected a deep and unwavering commitment to national development, education, and diplomacy.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya noted that Professor Aminu’s death is a profound loss not only to his family and the people of Adamawa but to the entire country — particularly Northern Nigeria, where his impact on educational policy and socio-political affairs was most felt.
On behalf of the Northern Governors, the NSGF Chairman extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the government and people of Adamawa State, and all Nigerians grieving this national loss.
He prayed for Almighty Allah to forgive Professor Aminu’s shortcomings, accept his good deeds, and grant him Aljannat Firdaus.
