Bauchi State Mourns the Passing of BASIEC Chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Makama Hardawa

Bauchi, Nigeria – July 30, 2025

The Bauchi State Government has announced the passing of Alhaji Ahmed Makama Hardawa, Chairman of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), who died on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, in Abuja following a brief illness.

In a solemn statement issued by His Excellency, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, CON, Fnipr, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, the government expressed deep sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the BASIEC team, and the people of Bauchi State.

 A Life of Distinguished Public Service

Alhaji Ahmed Makama Hardawa was a respected statesman, a dedicated public servant, and a patriotic Nigerian whose career was marked by integrity, diligence, and fairness. He previously served as Resident Electoral Commissioner in Taraba and Nasarawa States, where he earned widespread respect for his commitment to credible electoral processes.

As Chairman of BASIEC, Hardawa played a pivotal role in strengthening democratic governance at the grassroots level. His leadership was defined by:
- Promotion of transparent and credible elections
- Advocacy for rule of law and institutional development
- Dedication to inclusive and participatory democracy

💬 Governor Bala Mohammed’s Tribute

Governor Bala Mohammed described the late Alhaji Hardawa as:

He prayed that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgive Alhaji Hardawa’s shortcomings and grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.
