Bauchi’s Tech-Driven Crime Fight Nets Serial Offender
By Abdulwahab Muhammad Bauchí
The Bauchi State Police Command has made a remarkable breakthrough in its fight against crime using cutting-edge technology. The suspect at the center of this latest operation, Kabiru Bala, a 31-year-old from Darazo LGA, has been identified as a habitual criminal with a record spanning seven years, involving vandalism, theft, and repeated incarceration.
According to CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the Public Relations Officer, the arrest was made possible after Dr. Auwal Abdullahi of Gombe State filed a report on July 20, 2025. His parked vehicle at Al-Umma Village Lodge was broken into overnight, resulting in the theft of:
- ₦5 million in cash
- A touchscreen laptop
- A Tecno Smart 17 smartphone
An immediate investigation was launched. Utilizing advanced tracking and forensic techniques, the police swiftly apprehended Bala. During interrogation, he confessed not only to this particular theft but also to a wide network of criminal activities—including the vandalism of armoured cables across Bauchi metropolis, Alkaleri, Ningi, Kari, and Lanzai. He revealed selling the stolen cables by weight for ₦10,000 per kilogram, earning ₦60,000 in his most recent transaction.
Recovered items included the stolen laptop and smartphone. Bala’s statements pointed to a network of accomplices and buyers involved in the resale of stolen property.
The Bauchi State Police Commissioner, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that Bala be formally charged to court after investigations conclude, sending a clear message that repeat offenders will face swift justice.
