In a bold move to strengthen the fight against gender-based violence (GBV), the Gombe State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Miss Asma’u Mohammed Iganus, has presented official copies of the GBV law to the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, and the Chairman of Gombe Local Government Council, Barr. Sani Ahmad Haruna.

The symbolic presentation took place during a high-level advocacy visit to the Emir’s Palace, part of a broader state-wide sensitization drive aimed at mobilizing traditional and religious leaders to take frontline roles in ending violence and harmful practices against women and vulnerable groups.

Miss Asma’u Iganus, in her remarks, emphasized the central role of traditional rulers in driving social change, protecting human rights, and influencing community behavior. She called for full implementation of the GBV law, stressing the need for collective action to tackle domestic abuse, rape, and harmful cultural norms.

Receiving the document on behalf of the Emir, Danlawan Gombe, Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro, lauded the initiative and reiterated the palace’s commitment to supporting government-led efforts to end all forms of violence and uphold human dignity.

On his part, the Gombe LG Chairman, Barr. Sani Ahmad Haruna, praised the sensitization campaign and pledged his council’s unflinching support in enforcing the law and creating more awareness at the grassroots.

The Commissioner was accompanied by key figures including Hon. Gabriel Galadima, Chairman of the Gombe State House Committee on Women Affairs, along with stakeholders Yerima Ladan Gaule and Adamu Musa.

The event, backed by UN Women, was conducted under the supervision of the Gombe State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
