SUBEB Directs Mandatory NIN Registration for Primary Six and JSS 3 Students Across Bauchi State
By Abdulwahab Muhammad BauchÃ
The Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has issued a directive mandating all Primary Six and Junior Secondary School (JSS 3) students across the state to obtain a National Identification Number (NIN).
The directive was announced by the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Alhaji Adamu Mohammed Duguri, during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Bauchi.
According to him, the new policy became necessary following requirements by major examination bodies, including JAMB and tertiary institutions, which now demand NIN as a prerequisite for registration.
Alhaji Duguri urged all Headteachers of primary schools and Principals of junior secondary schools to ensure that prospective graduates begin the NIN registration process early, to avoid delays during transition to higher levels of education.
He also called on parents to take the directive seriously and ensure that their children acquire the NIN before they reach Primary Six or JSS 3.
In addition, the SUBEB Chairman tasked all Education Secretaries across the 20 Local Government Areas of the state to ensure strict compliance with the directive to prevent last-minute rush.
Speaking at the event, the Education Secretary of Bauchi Local Government, Hajiya Talatu Yakubu, expressed confidence that all affected education officers and parents would cooperate to implement the new policy.
