Gombe State has entered a strategic partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) to enhance maternal and child healthcare services.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya welcomed a high-level delegation from both organizations in Gombe on Wednesday, marking the beginning of a collaborative effort to reduce maternal mortality, improve service delivery, and strengthen healthcare institutions.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming the state’s healthcare system, emphasizing that maternal and child health remains a top priority. He expressed optimism that the partnership would accelerate progress in reducing preventable deaths and improving healthcare outcomes.

To facilitate the collaboration, Governor Yahaya directed Deputy Governor Manassah Daniel Jatau—who also chairs the Task Force on Primary Health Care—alongside Health Commissioner Dr. Habu Dahiru and other relevant agencies, to work closely with the delegation in designing a sustainable intervention framework tailored to Gombe’s specific needs.

The Bloomberg Philanthropies team was represented by Dr. Neena Prasad, Maternal and Reproductive Health Lead, and Samantha Lobis, Senior Advisor on Maternal Health.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation delegation included Rodio Diallo, Deputy Director for Family Health; Silvia Von Lewis, Deputy Director for Maternal, Newborn, Child Nutrition and Health; and Jennifer A-Boateng, Senior Programme Officer for Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health and Nutrition.

This partnership is expected to drive significant improvements in maternal and child health services across Gombe State, ensuring better healthcare access and outcomes for women and children.
