SAZU’s Faculty of Law Strengthens Collaboration to Enhance Legal Education

By, Abdulwahab Muhammad, Bauchi

In a bid to advance legal education and justice in Nigeria, the Faculty of Law at Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Bauchi State, has initiated strategic partnerships with sister legal institutions.

This was announced by the Dean, Professor Saleh Muhammad Galadima Kanam, during a public lecture held in honor of Justice Eleojo Enanche JCA. The event celebrated Justice Enanche’s contributions to the Nigerian judiciary and provided a platform for critical discussions on judicial reforms.

Delivering a keynote paper titled “Delay in Disposing Cases by the Supreme Court and Its Implications for Access to Justice in Nigeria: A Call for Reform,” Professor Kanam highlighted major challenges plaguing the judiciary, including case backlogs, limited justices, and procedural delays. He proposed unbundling the Supreme Court into Zonal Judicial Divisions to ensure quicker and more accessible justice.

Justice Enanche, in his own presentation on “Delay in Disposing Cases by the Appellate Courts in Nigeria: Unbundling the Supreme Court as a Panacea,” endorsed the idea, emphasizing the need for structural reforms to enhance judicial efficiency.

The event, attended by key stakeholders such as the JSC Secretary and the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Dr. Ibrahim Danjuma, reinforced the importance of collaboration in strengthening legal education and improving Nigeria’s justice system.

SAZU’s Faculty of Law remains committed to fostering partnerships and driving reforms that will enhance legal practice and judicial processes in the country.
