Durbar: Lame District Promotes Peace, Unity Through Hawan Mamman Kusu

BauchiThe ancient town of Gumau headquarters of Lame District in Toro Local Government Area of of Bauchi State, hosted the people of from Bauchi, Kano Jigawa , Kaduna and Plateau to a colourful durbar and display of cultural heritage, known as the Hawan Mamman Kusu, to celebrate and maintain the history and traditions of the first Sarkin Yakin Bauchi Mamman Kusu.
The aim of the durbar was to foster unity, peace, and pride in the area’s rich cultural tapestry, showcasing its traditions and talents to a global audience.
Our correspondent reports that the annual durbar showcased a wide range of cultural activities including horse riding, music, dances and display of cultural heritage. Visitors from within and outside Bauchi State, including traditional and community leaders, top government officials, politicians and business moguls, watched the scenes of the durbar and cultural display The Palace of the district head of Lame Alhaji Aliyu Yakubu Lame, Venue of the event Gumau Central Primary School was filled to capacity with guests from within and outside the state, notable among who were the members of the state assembly and federal legislators, as well as members of the State Executive Council (SEC), sons and daughters of LameThe high point of the event was when the entourage of the Sarkin Yakin Bauchi the District Head of Lame, Alhaji Aliyu Yakubu Lame, entered the Gumau Primary School to a standing ovation. Wards and Village Heads, ethnic groups from across the district dressed in their traditional regalia welcomed the revered monarch with cheers signifying the commencement of the event. Horse riders and Cultural troupes of some ethnic groups in the state as well as from neighbouring states, also graced the occasion. In his speech, the Sarkin Yakin Bauchi Alhaji Aliyu Yakubu Lame urged his subjects to embrace peace and preach love and unity among themselves.He said the event was organised to bring the people of the area together with a view to ensuring a peaceful co-existence, remember the sacrifice made by the first Sarkin Yakin Bauchi Late Mamman Kusu who is their great grand father and share the joy of eid el fitr celebration.. He explained that, “as descendants of Mamman Kusu, The durbar and cultural.dances is an occasion for all of us to come together for peace and unity and to share our common heritage.” He advised farmers in his domain to embrace both wet and dry season farming to boost food security and to fight poverty and hungerAliyu Lame urged stakeholders to harness culture to promote peace and unity in Toro local Government ,the state and the country at large.He said that events like that brought people together to showcase their cultures on the same platform had a way of unifying the people and promoting peaceful co-existence.
Sarkin Yakin Bauchi said sustaining cultural values remained a vital tool for promoting peace, unity and social harmony.
He said he initiated the event and this is the fifth Mamman Kusu durbar because of his significance to the people of Bauchi State and beyond and any event that promoted the cultural heritage of ethnic groups was a platform to harmonise beliefs and enhance understanding. He attributed some of the security challenges and other vices to the abandonment of cultural values, beliefs and practices. Alhaji Aliyu who is a King maker in Bauchi Emirate said that the event was important because it served as a platform to mobilise stakeholders in the arts and culture industry to interact, showcase their talents and protect social values.
He advised , government and Bauchi emirate continued to promote our cultural heritage through supporting all ethnic groups that mark their cultural days, in Bauchi we need to have Yakubun Bauchi day to remember the person who established the emirate .” Many people that attended the occasion commended the District head for his exceptional leadership and commitment to promoting unity and cultural heritage through the annual Mamman Kusu Durbar marking its return after a significant hiatus since during Shehu Usman Danfodiyo Jihad.
They described the durbar as a landmark event poised to boost economic activities and attract both local and international investors into the state.
