By Abdulwahab Muhammad Bauchi
Ibadan, Oyo State – April 15, 2025 — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has concluded a high-level meeting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where it issued a communiqué detailing resolutions on pressing national matters, internal party affairs, and strategic plans ahead of the 2027 general elections.
No Merger, But Open to New Members
The Forum categorically ruled out any merger or coalition with other political parties, stating that the PDP remains a strong, independent platform. However, it welcomed individuals, parties, or groups who share its vision for quality leadership to join its ranks.
National Secretary Position
In a bid to address internal party administration, the Forum resolved that the Deputy National Secretary would assume the duties of the National Secretary in an acting capacity, pending the nomination and ratification of a substantive candidate from the South East zone.
Legal Move on State of Emergency
The PDP governors expressed strong support for Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, while calling for a Supreme Court interpretation of the constitutionality and process of declaring a state of emergency in any part of the country.
Rising Insecurity Condemned
Rising insecurity in Borno, Plateau, Katsina, and Edo States was a major concern. The Forum condemned the deteriorating security situation and called on the Federal Government to reassess its priorities and security strategies.
Convention Planning Underway
