Gombe, 31st May 2025 – Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to advancing infrastructure using indigenous and cost-effective technologies through a strategic partnership with the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI).
Governor Inuwa Yahaya hosted the Director-General and CEO of NBRRI, Professor Samson Duna, at the Government House on Friday, where discussions centred around sustainable development, technological innovation, and improving infrastructure across the state.
Model Facility Handed Over to Boost Security
A highlight of the visit was the official handover of a modern security outpost constructed by NBRRI at the new Mile 3 area along the Gombe-Yola Road. The Governor praised the facility, describing it as:
“A masterpiece and an edifice that will stand the test of time,”
He commended its quality and durability, reflecting NBRRI’s expertise in building resilient and cost-efficient structures using local materials.
Governor Yahaya directed that the facility be handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for use in strengthening security in the area.
“As beneficiaries and custodians of this structure, the Government of Gombe State will ensure its proper maintenance and use for the intended purpose,” he added.
Expanding Collaboration with NBRRI
The Governor expressed readiness to deepen collaboration with NBRRI to preserve and transform historical monuments in the state into museums using the Institute’s climate-smart and affordable construction technologies.
He lauded Professor Duna’s leadership, describing him as an innovator and a performer who has significantly advanced the Institute's mandate in line with national development objectives.
NBRRI’s Impact in Gombe and the North-East
In his remarks, Professor Duna explained that NBRRI’s unique building technologies rely entirely on locally sourced materials. This approach, he said, not only reduces construction costs but also ensures buildings are naturally adapted to Nigeria’s climate.
“Our structures stay cooler in the heat and warmer in cold conditions—without the need for expensive energy systems,” he explained.
He noted the Institute’s vibrant presence in the North-East through its zonal office in Gombe. He thanked the Governor for allocating land and supporting the construction of a permanent three-storey centre to house the North-East Zonal Office.
Professor Duna also revealed ongoing projects in the state, including:
- An Artisan Development Centre at the Federal College of Education, Gombe
- Construction of classroom blocks, health centres, and boreholes
- Installation of solar-powered streetlights
- Road infrastructure works
These projects, he said, are designed to empower communities, promote local content, and improve the quality of life across the region.
Security Agencies Commend Governor Yahaya
After the meeting, Professor Duna joined the Governor’s Special Adviser on Security, Hon. Abubakar Aminu Musa, and other officials at the Mile 3 outpost for the formal handover ceremony.
Receiving the keys to the facility, the Gombe State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Jibrin Idris, expressed deep gratitude to Governor Inuwa Yahaya for the gesture.
“This building will greatly enhance our operational presence in the area. We also appreciate the Governor’s continued support, particularly in logistics and mobility,” he said.
A Vision for a Modern Gombe
The visit underscored Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s development agenda, anchored on innovation, local empowerment, and sustainable infrastructure. With partners like NBRRI, Gombe State continues to emerge as a model for practical and inclusive development in the North-East.
