Abuja, Nigeria In a significant move to strengthen international ties, Bauchi State Governor, His Excellency Bala Mohammed, on Monday received a delegation from the United States Embassy in Nigeria at the Governor’s Lodge, Abuja.
The U.S. delegation was led by Mr. Tim Smith, Acting Deputy Chief of Mission, accompanied by Ms. Cassandra Carraway, Political Officer at the embassy. The visit builds on an earlier interaction between Governor Mohammed and the U.S. Ambassador during the Nigerian Governors’ Forum.
During the meeting, Governor Bala Mohammed—fondly known as Kauran Bauchi—presented a compelling overview of Bauchi State’s transformation since he assumed office in 2019. He detailed his administration’s efforts in tackling inherited challenges and implementing deliberate reforms aimed at repositioning the state for sustainable growth.
Among the key milestones highlighted were:
- Massive infrastructure development across the state
- Functional Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) established in every ward
- Construction of classrooms to improve educational access
- Enhanced security and a significant reduction in the number of out-of-school children
Governor Mohammed also emphasized a breakthrough in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), attributing the progress to strict fiscal discipline, governance reforms, and improved administrative systems. These efforts have helped stabilize Bauchi’s economy and improve its appeal to potential investors.
The Governor used the occasion to encourage the U.S. government and American investors to explore opportunities in key sectors such as agriculture, education, healthcare, and renewable energy in Bauchi State.
In response, the U.S. delegation commended the Governor for the state’s development efforts and reiterated America’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote good governance and socio-economic growth in Nigeria.
“We are impressed by the progress Bauchi State has made. The U.S. Government values our partnership and looks forward to deepening ties that benefit both sides,” said Mr. Tim Smith.
