Workers’ Day 2025: Governor Inuwa Yahaya Salutes Gombe Workers, Reaffirms Commitment to Welfare and Social Justice

Gombe, Nigeria – May 1, 2025

As the world marks International Workers’ Day, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has extended warm greetings and commendation to the hardworking workforce of Gombe State, praising their resilience, dedication, and vital role in the state’s development.

In a message commemorating the occasion, Governor Yahaya described workers as the "engine room of governance" and lauded their contribution to the transformation agenda of his administration.

“Today, I salute the courage, commitment, and industry of our workers,” the Governor stated. “Your efforts continue to drive the transformation of our dear state, and for that, we are truly grateful.”

He reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of workers, emphasizing that Gombe State was among the first to implement the national minimum wage—a demonstration of the government's dedication to fair and decent earnings for all employees.

“Despite economic challenges, we have sustained prompt and regular payment of salaries, pensions, and other entitlements,” he said. “We are also working diligently to clear the backlog of inherited gratuities for retirees at both the state and local government levels.”

Governor Yahaya noted that the 2025 Workers’ Day theme, “Social Justice and Decent Work: Safety and Health of Workers,” aligns closely with his administration’s focus on creating safe, dignified, and productive working environments.

“I am proud of the progress we’ve made in promoting occupational health and safety. We will continue to prioritize initiatives that protect the dignity, health, and productivity of our workforce,” he added.

The Governor also expressed appreciation to the organised labour unions in Gombe for their collaboration and commitment to industrial peace, describing their support as crucial to the administration’s continued progress.

Acknowledging the socio-economic challenges facing the nation, Governor Yahaya called for unity, resilience, and collective sacrifice.

“Workers are central to our economic growth and service delivery. I urge you to continue your selfless service to the state. As a government, we remain committed to ensuring that your efforts are met with fairness, respect, and support.”

He concluded by reaffirming his administration’s pledge to uphold a culture of excellence, equity, and good governance, with workers’ interests remaining a top priority.
