In a bid to enhance professionalism and improve the quality of broadcasting in Bauchi State, the Ministry of Information and Communications has commenced a three-day media capacity training for staff of Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC) and Bauchi State Television (BATV).

The training, which was declared open by the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Usman Shehu Usman, is aimed at equipping editors, reporters, producers, presenters, and other key personnel with the skills needed to deliver world-class media content.

Addressing participants at the opening ceremony, Hon. Usman Shehu Usman described the initiative as a timely intervention to build capacity and boost productivity across state-owned media outfits.

“Today, we are gathered here to support our team through enhanced skills development, knowledge sharing, and capacity building. Productivity cannot be achieved without capacity, and this training is designed to strengthen the foundation of our media institutions,” the Commissioner stated.

He noted that the training, organized in collaboration with BRC and BATV, will cover critical areas such as excellent reporting skills, editorial judgment, creative programming, innovative presentation techniques, and captivating storytelling.

Highlighting the vision of the state government, the Commissioner reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to revamping state-owned media organizations.

“From Bauchi State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, CON, I assure you that we will continue to support our media outfits to meet modern broadcasting standards. Very soon, we will recruit additional staff and fully revive both BRC and BATV for the common good of our dear state,” he said.

Hon. Usman Shehu Usman also expressed gratitude to the resource persons who, despite the short notice, accepted to share their expertise during the training sessions.

“Your contributions to professional development are highly appreciated and will be remembered positively in the history of our media sector,” he added.

The event attracted the presence of distinguished stakeholders, including the Head of Service, the NBC State Officer, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of State Media, the NUJ Chairman, the RATTAWU Chairman, managing directors of BRC and BATV, and other senior officials.

Participants were urged to take full advantage of the opportunity by remaining attentive and actively engaging in all sessions.

The capacity training is expected to significantly enhance the content quality and operational standards of the state’s radio and television stations, positioning them for greater relevance in today’s competitive media landscape.
