The Bauchi State Police Command has issued a stern warning following a series of disturbing incidents where individuals climbed telecommunications masts across the state to make political demands or declarations. Authorities say the reckless acts not only endangered lives but also posed a serious threat to public safety and peace.

Three Incidents in Two Weeks

In what appears to be a growing and dangerous trend, three separate cases were recorded within just two weeks:

  • June 16, 2025Adamu Salisu, a 22-year-old popularly known as "Sarkin Malaman Samarin Muda Lawal Market", climbed a mast near Kofar Dumi Primary School. He vowed not to come down until Alhaji Bala Wunti declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election.

  • June 18, 2025Usman Nanu, 35, scaled the same mast site to demand that Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, CON, publicly declare for the 2027 presidential race.

  • June 29, 2025Alkassim Saidu Yakubu, 37, from Unguwan Magaji Inkil, climbed an MTN mast, insisting the Bauchi State Commissioner of Finance must announce his gubernatorial ambition before he would descend.

In each case, swift police intervention led to the safe rescue and arrest of the individuals involved.

Attempted Suicide Is a Crime, Police Say

According to the Police Command, all three individuals are now in custody and will face legal action for attempted suicide and public nuisance. Police authorities disclosed that the suspects expressed regret over their actions and admitted to acting out of “ignorance and desperation.”

Commissioner of Police Condemns the Trend

Reacting to the incidents, Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, psc(+), mni, described the trend as worrisome and unacceptable.

“These reckless stunts could have ended in tragedy. No political ambition or message is worth risking your life or disturbing public peace. We will not tolerate it,” he declared.

The Commissioner further warned that anyone caught engaging in similar acts or encouraging such behaviour will be arrested and prosecuted under the law.

Parents, Leaders Urged to Caution the Youth

CP Aliyu also appealed to parents, guardians, and community leaders to advise their children and followers to avoid actions or statements that may incite unrest or threaten peace in the state.

“The police will not hesitate to investigate and prosecute anyone found to be instigating or supporting activities that disturb the peace,” he added.

The Bauchi State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and maintaining order across the state and urged residents to report any suspicious or harmful behaviour to the nearest security formation.

End.
