Culture, Unity, and Celebration: Governor Inuwa Yahaya, UN Official, and Dignitaries Attend Sallah Durbar in Gombe

From Abdulwahab Muhammad Bauchí

The spirit of Eid-el-Kabir came alive in a spectacular display of culture and tradition as Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, led an impressive array of dignitaries to the Emir’s Palace in Gombe to witness the annual Sallah Durbar.

The event, known for its vibrant pageantry and deep cultural significance, was graced by the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Mohammed Fall, alongside the Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo, the Deputy Speaker, members of the State Executive Council, the Head of Civil Service, security chiefs, and other senior officials.

Hosted by the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, CFR, the Durbar featured a majestic procession of traditionally dressed horsemen, representing various districts and royal households. The horses—adorned in richly embroidered fabrics—moved in rhythm through the palace grounds, as residents and visitors alike gathered in large numbers to soak in the cultural spectacle.

More than just a parade, the Sallah Durbar is a celebration of Gombe’s rich heritage, a visual reminder of the emirate’s enduring role in preserving tradition, promoting unity, and fostering a collective sense of identity among the people.

Addressing the gathering, the Emir urged citizens to uphold the values of peace, tolerance, and coexistence, while offering prayers for prosperity in Gombe State and Nigeria as a whole.

In his remarks, Governor Inuwa Yahaya praised the Emirate for sustaining this treasured tradition and reaffirmed his administration’s support for cultural preservation and peaceful cohabitation.

“The Sallah Durbar remains one of the most cherished traditions in Gombe,” the Governor noted. “It symbolizes the deep-rooted values of celebration and communal unity that define the Eid festivities in our state.”

As the horses galloped and the drums echoed through the palace grounds, the Durbar once again stood as a powerful reminder that tradition and modern governance can coexist in harmony, enriching both the cultural and civic life of the people.
