Governor Bala Mohammed Approves ₦200 Million Relief for Dass Windstorm Victims

…Pays Sympathy Visit, Orders Swift Emergency Response and Long-Term Environmental Measures

Bauchi State Governor, His Excellency Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has approved a ₦200 million relief package for communities in Dass Local Government Area devastated by a recent windstorm.

The Governor made the announcement during a sympathy visit to Dass LGA, where several communities—Durr, Wandi, Bagel Bundot, and parts of Dass town—suffered extensive damage to homes, farmlands, and public infrastructure, leaving many residents displaced.

During a courtesy call on the Emir of

Dass, Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Othman, Governor Bala expressed deep concern over the extent of destruction, assuring the affected communities of the government’s full support.

“We are with you in this moment of pain and loss. The Bauchi State Government is committed to standing by its people in times of disaster,” the Governor stated.

As part of immediate relief efforts:

  • 100 million will be disbursed directly to affected households.
  • An additional ₦100 million worth of building materials will be supplied to support reconstruction efforts.

Accompanied by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Auwal Jatau, and senior officials, Governor Bala personally toured the hardest-hit areas to assess the damage firsthand. He directed emergency agencies to expedite relief operations and tasked the local government with commencing shelterbelt planting as a long-term solution to environmental vulnerability.

He further emphasized transparency and fairness in the distribution of relief items, urging community leaders to ensure every affected household receives due support.

In his address, the Chairman of Dass LGA, Hon. Muhammad Abubakar Jibo, praised the Governor’s prompt intervention, noting that the local council had already begun damage assessments and mobilized resources pending state support.

Responding, the Emir of Dass expressed deep gratitude for the visit and the substantial relief provided.

“This compassionate gesture by the Governor is not only timely but deeply reassuring. It reflects true leadership,” the Emir stated.

The visit and relief announcement underscore Governor Bala Mohammed’s commitment to responsive governance and grassroots impact, especially in times of crisis.

End.
