Bauchi Governor Flags Off N7.8 Billion Ultra-Modern Assembly Complex

From Ahmad Saka, Bauchi

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has officially flagged off the construction and remodeling of an ultra-modern Bauchi State House of Assembly Complex, signaling a major step in strengthening the legislative infrastructure of the state.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony held in Bauchi, Governor Bala commended members of the State Assembly for their sustained cooperation, which he said has been vital in achieving the administration’s development agenda.

The governor disclosed that the project, valued at N7.8 billion, is scheduled for completion within 12 months, with over 50% of the contract sum already disbursed to the contractor — Mr. Architeronics Nigeria Limited — to ensure seamless execution.

“The complex had not undergone any significant renovation in nearly 30 years,” Governor Bala said. “We are now equipping it with modern facilities to enhance the effectiveness of the legislative arm.”

He also revealed that temporary office accommodations have been provided for lawmakers during the construction period, while housing units for all three arms of government are in the pipeline — not for sale — to preserve their autonomy and security.

Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Hon. Dallami Kawule, who supervises the project, explained that the scope includes:

  • Remodeling and renovation of the legislative complex
  • Overhaul of the administrative block, committees building, power house, and mosque
  • Construction of a new Assembly Service Commission building
  • Office complex for Honourable Members
  • Gate and gatehouse construction
  • Rehabilitation of internal roads, drainages, and perimeter fence
  • A 100KVA solar backup power plant
  • Rehabilitation of the water supply system

Hon. Kawule assured that his ministry will provide effective oversight to ensure quality and timely project delivery.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Suleiman, lauded the initiative as both timely and essential.

“Since its commissioning in the 1980s, the Assembly complex has only undergone one minor renovation in 2011,” the Speaker noted. “This modern structure will restore dignity to the legislature and enhance the efficiency of our work.”

The event attracted dignitaries and stakeholders who offered prayers for the successful completion of the project and applauded the Bala Mohammed administration for its commitment to institutional development.
