The Bauchi State Executive Council, under the leadership of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has approved a series of far-reaching initiatives aimed at environmental protection, youth empowerment, cultural identity, and agricultural development.
Addressing journalists shortly after the Council meeting at the Government House, the Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Danlami Ahmed Kawule, revealed that the government will immediately commence erosion control projects across three badly affected communities: Badara (Kirfi LGA), Gwaram (Alkaleri LGA), and Katsalle (Bauchi LGA). Over ₦900 million has been earmarked for the interventions.
Kawule also disclosed that under the World Bank-assisted Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project, erosion control will be extended to critical areas within the Bauchi metropolis including Tsohon Kamfani, Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Federal Low Cost, and Gwallagan Mayaka.
In a related development, Commissioner for Information and Communication, Alhaji Usman Shehu Usman, announced the Council’s approval for the training of 1,000 youths in modern agricultural techniques to enhance productivity and ensure food security.
Highlighting the government’s cultural agenda, Usman revealed that Bauchi will soon develop a state anthem and logo as symbolic expressions of unity and pride. These are intended to revive the state’s historical and cultural significance, particularly in tourism.
The Council also resolved to address land encroachment at Lame Bura Game Reserve, a growing security threat as the area has reportedly become a hideout for criminals.
In further support of the agricultural sector, Governor Bala Mohammed has directed the immediate sale of fertilizers at a subsidized price of ₦20,000 to ease the burden on farmers and promote food sufficiency.
The multi-sectoral approvals, ranging from environment to agriculture and cultural rebranding, reflect the Bala Mohammed administration's commitment to delivering impactful governance and restoring the state’s heritage and economic viability
