Governor Bala Mohammed Flags Off ₦7.8 Billion Overhaul of Bauchi State Assembly Complex

In a major step toward strengthening democratic institutions in Bauchi State, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has flagged off a ₦7.8 billion renovation and upgrade of the Bauchi State House of Assembly complex.
The ambitious project, launched at the Assembly premises in Bauchi, includes the construction of a new Assembly Service Commission building, renovation of the main legislative chamber, refurbishment of the dilapidated administrative block, and revamp of committee buildings, among other critical upgrades.
Speaking during the inauguration, Governor Bala Mohammed said the initiative aligns with his administration’s broader urban renewal policy and commitment to providing a more functional and dignified environment for legislative work.
“This project is not just about bricks and mortar. It’s about strengthening the institution of democracy and ensuring our lawmakers have the right environment to serve the people effectively,” he stated.
The governor also commended the harmonious relationship between the executive and legislative arms, describing it as a key driver behind the successful implementation of development projects across the state. He added that alternative office accommodations have been secured to ensure uninterrupted legislative operations during the remodeling period.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Suleiman, lauded the initiative as long overdue, noting that the Assembly complex has not seen any major renovation in nearly two decades.
“This intervention is both timely and visionary. It reflects the governor’s respect for the legislative arm and commitment to good governance,” he said.
In their separate remarks, the
Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Hon. Danlami Kawule, and the Chairman of the State Assembly Service Commission, Alhaji Bappa Haruna Disina, praised the governor for extending his development agenda to the legislative arm.On behalf of the contractors, Architect Ruben Okoye assured stakeholders that the project would be delivered within 12 months, meeting all specified standards and timelines.
This renovation adds to Governor Bala Mohammed’s legacy of infrastructure renewal across all sectors of governance in Bauchi State.
