In a remarkable display of political maturity and statesmanship, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, of Gombe State, today hosted a grand reception in honour of his predecessor, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, following the wedding fatiha of the latter’s daughter, Hafsat.

The well-attended event, which held at the Gombe International Conference Centre, drew dignitaries from across Nigeria’s political and social spectrum. Among the guests were the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas; Governors of Bauchi and Oyo States; former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki; federal and state lawmakers; traditional rulers; captains of industry; and numerous well-wishers from within and outside the state.

Speakers at the occasion hailed Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s uncommon gesture of personally organizing and hosting the reception as a shining example of leadership that transcends political boundaries. The gesture, they noted, underscores his commitment to peace, unity, mutual respect, and social cohesion.

Senate President Akpabio, in his goodwill message, lauded the Governor’s hospitality and bridge-building spirit, describing it as a rare show of political sportsmanship.

“We thank you for hosting us and for according us such exceptional hospitality in honour of one of us. Gombe State, under your leadership, has demonstrated a level of political tolerance and unity that is truly admirable,” Senator Akpabio said.

He further noted that the presence of over seven senators, cutting across political parties, attests not only to Senator Dankwambo’s inclusive personality but also to the welcoming atmosphere that defines Gombe under Governor Inuwa’s leadership.

On his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, praised Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s gesture, saying it sends a powerful message of national unity.

“This union between families of different political leanings reflects the kind of unity Nigeria needs today. Governor Inuwa’s role in this event speaks volumes about his character and his vision for a united country,” he noted.

Former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki also commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya, describing his actions as a clear reflection of humility, empathy, and solidarity that goes beyond politics.

Earlier in his welcome address, Governor Inuwa Yahaya expressed his pleasure at hosting the event and reiterated Gombe’s reputation as a land of peace, harmony, and hospitality.

“This occasion is a reflection of who we are – accommodating, peaceful, and united. We believe in standing together as one people. Today’s celebration should serve to further strengthen the bonds that connect us, not only as leaders and colleagues, but as brothers and sisters committed to a greater Nigeria,” the Governor said.

He stressed the importance of upholding the enduring values of unity, tolerance, and mutual respect that have come to define Gombe’s identity.

In a heartfelt vote of thanks, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo expressed deep appreciation to Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his outstanding show of solidarity, generosity, and leadership.

“I want to sincerely thank Governor Inuwa Yahaya for standing by me at this significant moment. His support, both morally and materially, has been instrumental to the success of this event. This is what true leadership and brotherhood look like,” he stated.

The wedding fatiha between Hafsat and Ashraf took place earlier in the day at the palace of the Emir of Gombe, His Royal Highness Dr. Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, CFR.
