KOICA Delegation Visits Model Smart School Bauchi: Strengthening Smart Education in Nigeria

A Strategic Visit to Model Smart School Bauchi
In a bold step toward transforming education in Nigeria, the Model Smart School Bauchi welcomed a high-level delegation from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) on August 1st, 2025. The visit, held in collaboration with the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), focused on assessing challenges and preparing for the second phase of the KOICA/Ubion Smart Education Project.
The Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Alhaji Adamu Mohammed Duguri, represented by Alhaji Ishiaku S. Abdullahi, expressed deep appreciation for KOICA’s ongoing support. He reaffirmed the board’s commitment to working closely with KOICA to ensure the sustainability of Smart Education in Bauchi State.
KOICA’s Commitment to Progress
Mr. Esunub Kim, KOICA Country Director, praised the dedication of the school’s staff and SUBEB’s leadership. He emphasized KOICA’s readiness to address key challenges, including:
Unstable power supply
Poor internet connectivity
Inconsistent network access
These issues, he noted, are critical to unlocking the full potential of digital learning platforms and ICT tools.
Challenges on the Ground
Mal. Tahir Babayo Inuwa, Principal of Model Smart School Bauchi, highlighted how unreliable electricity and weak internet infrastructure hinder the effectiveness of Smart Classrooms and digital resources.
SUBEB’s Response
Malam Zuhairu Usman, Director of School Services and Overseeing Director of the Smart School, assured KOICA that these challenges are being addressed. He reiterated SUBEB’s commitment to providing essential teaching and learning materials to support the initiative.
Culture Meets Innovation
The visit featured traditional dance performances by students, celebrating Bauchi’s rich cultural heritage. This blend of tradition and technology reflects the holistic vision of Smart Education—honoring the past while embracing the future.
Guided Tour & Closing Remarks
Led by Head Teacher Mal. Yusha'u Mu'azu, the delegation toured the school’s facilities. In his closing remarks, Professor Hwang, KOICA Project Coordinator, acknowledged the progress made and reaffirmed KOICA’s commitment to resolving the identified challenges in the next phase.
