A Tragedy Met with Courage
In the wake of a deeply saddening incident in Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State—where tensions between Fulani pastoralists and farming communities led to the loss of lives—one thing stood out: leadership with integrity.
Rather than allow the situation to spiral, His Excellency, Governor Bala Mohammed, stepped in with decisive and balanced action. His intervention wasn’t just timely—it was transformational.
Justice Without Bias
Governor Mohammed’s response was rooted in fairness. He:
- Convened peace talks with all affected parties
-Revoked illegal land allocations that had fueled the conflict
-Restored traditional cattle routes to protect pastoral livelihoods
-Demarcated farmlands to ensure farmers’ rights were upheld
This wasn’t just conflict resolution—it was inclusive governance in action.
A Model for Other States
Governor Bala Mohammed’s leadership mirrors the commendable approach taken by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, who has also demonstrated a commitment to justice and equity in his handling of communal issues.
Both governors remind us that true leadership is about protecting all citizens, regardless of ethnicity, occupation, or background.
The Path to Peace and Progress
We at the International Human Rights Commission – Relief Fund Trust (IHRC-RFT), Nigeria Chapter, believe that justice is the foundation of peace. When leaders rise above bias and pressure to uphold human dignity, they pave the way for lasting development.
We call on all Nigerian state leaders to emulate this style of governance—one that prioritizes humanity, fairness, and unity.
Our Salute
We proudly commend:
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State
- Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State
For standing as beacons of fairness, courage, and modern leadership in Nigeria
