🔴 New Coalition Looms: APC Faces Its Toughest Internal Threat Ahead of 2027
By the Editor
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is now confronted with its most serious political crisis since its formation. But this time, the danger is not from opposition parties — it is coming from within. A silent but strategic coalition is taking shape, spearheaded by defectors from APC, former rivals, and disillusioned stakeholders from across Nigeria.
At the center of this movement is the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which is reportedly being reengineered as a national force to counter APC in the 2027 general elections. According to insider accounts, the ADC is now home to high-profile figures who are uniting to end APC’s reign at the federal level.
Strategic Defections: A Political Earthquake in the Making
Unlike previous political shifts, this new wave appears well-coordinated. It borrows tactics once used by APC itself — spreading voter confusion in low-literacy regions and splintering opposition strength. But now, the strategy is being reversed — to confuse and dismantle the influence of the ruling APC.
During the 2023 general elections, Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Peter Obi of the Labour Party posed the greatest challenges to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Atiku carried most of the North, while Obi swept the South East. Their failure to unite was a key factor that allowed Tinubu to clinch the presidency.
Now, Atiku and Obi are reportedly working together under a new understanding:
“The votes that were divided in 2023 must unite in 2027 — and that is how you defeat APC.”
El-Rufai’s Discontent and Northern Power Play
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is said to be among the leading figures driving this new realignment. After publicly expressing dissatisfaction with the current administration, he has reportedly entered talks with Atiku and Obi and is laying the groundwork for a new political blueprint.
Among those rumored to be aligning with the ADC-led coalition are:
- Isa Ali Pantami
- Kayode Fayemi
- Senator Abdullahi Adamu
- Senator Babba Kaita
- Senator Abdul Ningi
- Adamu Maina Waziri
These names span North and South — a clear indication that the coalition is not tribal, sectional, or religious. It is national.
Nationwide Reach, Unified Goal
From Katsina to Lagos, Sokoto to Rivers, Gombe to Delta, politicians are reportedly joining forces with one common goal:
“To remove APC from power in the 2027 elections.”
Had this coalition been in place during the 2023 election, Tinubu’s victory would have been unlikely. If it holds firm till 2027, the ruling party will face a major political meltdown.
A Message to APC: Reform or Perish
This is more than just political noise — it is an existential threat. APC must address internal grievances, rebuild party unity, and reassess its national appeal if it hopes to survive beyond 2027. Otherwise, it may follow the familiar path of previous ruling parties that collapsed after losing grip on power.
