Akuyam Fires Back at Dogara Over Bala Mohammed-Wike Dispute

By, Abdulwahab Muhammad Bauchi

Bauchi, Nigeria – February 3, 2025 – Former Bauchi State PDP Chairman, Alhaji Hamza Koshe Akuyam, has issued a scathing response to former Speaker Yakubu Dogara over his recent claims regarding Governor Bala Mohammed’s political rise and relationship with Nyesom Wike.

In a strongly worded statement, Akuyam dismissed Dogara’s assertions that Bala Mohammed relied on Wike’s influence to secure the PDP governorship ticket in 2019, insisting that Bala had already built a strong political foundation.

"It is a gratuitous insult for Dogara, who was not even a member of the PDP at the time, to claim knowledge of our internal processes," Akuyam said. "The truth is, Bala Mohammed’s emergence was based on merit, experience, and broad political support."

The former PDP chairman also accused Dogara of political opportunism, alleging that the former Speaker was driven by envy and self-interest. He recalled how Bala Mohammed helped rehabilitate Dogara’s political career after he was sidelined in the APC but noted that Dogara has since turned against him.

Akuyam further refuted claims that Bala Mohammed betrayed elder statesman Bello Kirfi, stating that it was Bala who facilitated Kirfi’s reinstatement as Wazirin Bauchi. He also challenged Dogara’s credibility, questioning his political track record and his motives for intervening in the ongoing dispute between Bala Mohammed and Wike.

"The real issue here is whether institutions should be stronger than individuals. Bala Mohammed stands for party discipline and democratic principles, while Dogara and Wike seem more interested in personal power," he added.

Akuyam’s statement underscores the deepening rift within the PDP as political camps realign ahead of future elections.
