PDP Chieftain Defends Bala Mohammed, Slams Dogara’s Allegations

From:Abdulwahab Muhammad Bauchi

Bauchi, Nigeria – February 3, 2025 – The political battle within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took another twist on Monday as former Bauchi State PDP Chairman, Alhaji Hamza Koshe Akuyam, fired back at ex-Speaker Yakubu Dogara over his comments on the rift between Governor Bala Mohammed and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

In a statement titled "Because I Am Involved," Akuyam accused Dogara of spreading falsehoods about Bala Mohammed’s political journey. He dismissed claims that Wike orchestrated Bala’s emergence as PDP’s governorship candidate in 2019, insisting that Bala won based on merit and political goodwill.

“The choice of Bala Mohammed was deliberate and strategic. It was not based on external influence but on his track record, electability, and credibility,” Akuyam argued.

He also accused Dogara of harboring an "inflated ego" and seeking to undermine Bala Mohammed despite the governor’s past efforts to support him. Akuyam recalled how Bala Mohammed helped Dogara revive his political career after he was sidelined by the APC but noted that Dogara has since turned against his former ally.

On the issue of Wike, Akuyam insisted that Bala Mohammed had always treated the former Rivers State governor as a friend but refused to compromise democratic principles for personal relationships.

“The real question is: should personal friendships override the constitution and party structures? Bala Mohammed stands for order, while Dogara and Wike are pushing for personal gains,” he said.

The statement comes amid growing tensions in the PDP, with party stakeholders watching closely how the unfolding drama could impact future elections.
