Bauchi NAWOJ Empowers Female Journalists Through Career Mentorship and Advocacy
In a bold step toward strengthening women’s participation in journalism, the Bauchi State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has taken significant strides in empowering its members through career mentorship and advocacy for gender equality. The association, in partnership with the Office of the Special Adviser to Governor Bala Mohammed on Media and Publicity, recently organized a career mentorship training session aimed at equipping female journalists with the necessary skills to excel in their profession.
Held at the NUJ Secretariat, the event formed part of activities marking the 2025 International Women’s Day celebration, with this year’s theme, "Accelerate Action," emphasizing the need for rapid progress in achieving gender equality.

Chairperson Hajiya Rashida Yusuf expressed gratitude to the Special Adviser, Comrade Mukhtar Gidado, for his support in ensuring the successful commemoration of IWD. Hajiya Yusuf emphasized the need for the removal of barriers that hinder women’s progress, calling on governments, organizations, and individuals to work collectively toward creating equal opportunities.
"This year’s theme encourages rapid advancements in gender equality by breaking down barriers that limit women’s progress in different sectors, including journalism. NAWOJ is committed to amplifying the voices of women, fostering professional development, and advocating for the elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against women and girls," she stated.
She further highlighted NAWOJ’s dedication to promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 5, which focuses on gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. She noted that NAWOJ is actively engaged in mentoring young female journalists and equipping them with the necessary knowledge and confidence to navigate the challenges of their profession.
