Gombe Governor’s DG Press, Ismaila Misilli, Wins 'Most Outstanding Spokesperson' Award — Again!

By Abdulwahab Muhammad Bauchi

In a moment that radiated both grace and recognition, Ismaila Uba Misilli, the Director-General of Press Affairs to the Gombe State Governor, has once again taken center stage—clinching the coveted title of “Most Outstanding Spokesperson of the Year” (State Category) at the 4th National Spokespersons Awards.

This is not his first time on the winners’ list. In fact, it’s his second consecutive win, a rare achievement that reflects not only consistency but excellence in public communication.

The prestigious event, held at the Abuja Continental Hotel, gathered top spokespersons from across Nigeria's 36 states, ministries, agencies, and even the Presidency. Organized by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in collaboration with Image Merchants Promotions Ltd., the awards are supported by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation.

The award ceremony was part of a larger three-day summit, inaugurated by the Minister of Information, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, and attended by prominent leaders including the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, and several former Ministers of Information such as Prof. Jerry Gana, Chief John Nwodo, Frank Nweke Jr., Labaran Maku, and Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

The awards jury highlighted Misilli’s outstanding contributions to strategic communication, editorial quality, and audience engagement. His calm demeanor, strong writing voice, and deep understanding of governance communication were all cited as reasons he remains ahead of the curve.

“As DG of Press Affairs, Misilli has not only transformed Gombe State’s media narrative but has also mentored a rising generation of communicators. His loyalty, integrity, and professionalism make him a benchmark in public sector communication,” the committee stated.

More than just press releases, Misilli’s influence is felt in opinion articles, policy explainers, and public education materials published across top-tier Nigerian media outlets. His work has become a powerful vehicle for sharing Gombe State’s story and strengthening the bridge between government and the people.

A Shared Victory
In his acceptance speech, Misilli gave credit to his principal, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, for providing the leadership and support that paved the way for such success.

“This award belongs to all of us — to my governor, my family, my media team, and the people of Gombe. It’s a reminder of what we can achieve when there’s trust, vision, and teamwork,” he said.

The award is not just another feather in his cap — it’s a testament to a public servant who has quietly but powerfully shaped how government connects with its people.
