A New Era for Energy in Bauchi: Governor Bala Mohammed Breaks Ground on Oil and Gas Academy
By Abdulwahab Muhammad BauchÃ
Bauchi State is taking a bold step into the future of energy development. On a bright day in Alkaleri, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, joined by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, officially performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the permanent site of the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy.
This historic moment is more than just turning soil — it’s about planting the seeds of opportunity, skills, and economic transformation.
Why It Matters
The Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy is a direct response to the discovery of oil in Kolmani. Governor Bala Mohammed explained that the idea was born shortly after the oil find, with the goal of empowering Bauchi’s youth to tap into the vast opportunities in the energy sector.
“This academy will provide the critical training needed for our young people to thrive in the evolving oil and gas industry,” the Governor stated.
A Shared Vision
Governor Mohammed took time to thank former President Muhammadu Buhari for laying the foundation of the Kolmani Oil Project, calling it a “historic breakthrough for Bauchi and for Nigeria.”
He also praised the Federal Government’s continued support, emphasizing that collaboration is key to achieving meaningful, long-term development.
Senator Lokpobiri echoed these sentiments. Applauding Governor Bala’s leadership, he reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting energy education and development initiatives in the region.
“Bauchi has what it takes to become a major player in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector,” the Minister said. “And we’re here to ensure that potential becomes a reality.”
A Hub for Energy Education
According to the State Commissioner for Natural Resources, Hon. Ahmed Maiwada Bello, the academy will serve as a center of excellence — not just for Bauchi, but for Northern Nigeria. It will offer technical and professional training that aligns with the needs of the oil and gas industry.
Local Support, Global Impact
The Executive Chairman of Alkaleri Local Government, Hon. Garba Hassan Bajama, welcomed the dignitaries and expressed optimism that the academy would bring development, jobs, and hope to the community.
The event was filled with excitement and hope — a clear sign that the people of Bauchi are ready to embrace their place in Nigeria’s energy future.
What’s Next?
With the academy now officially underway, all eyes are on Bauchi to deliver on its promise of energy-led growth. The project is expected to:
- Train and equip young Nigerians for oil and gas careers
- Boost local and regional economies
- Strengthen Bauchi’s role in national development
As construction begins, the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy stands as a powerful symbol of progress, partnership, and potential.
