Fabricated and False: Shehu Buba’s Visit Twisted for Mischief – Aide
In the era of digital misinformation, truth often takes a backseat to sensationalism. This appears to be the case in the recent false narrative surrounding Senator Shehu Buba, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, who was reportedly booed during a condolence visit to Toro. The story has now been debunked by a firsthand witness.
According to Ibrahim Ori, a close aide who accompanied the senator on the visit, the media reports claiming the senator was booed are nothing more than a concoction of mischief, speculation, and poor journalism.
“Our attention was drawn to a publication alleging that Senator Shehu Buba was booed over claims of neglect. This is completely untrue. The entire visit was peaceful and warmly received by the community,” Ori stated.
He further criticized the journalist behind the story for the overuse of the term "alleged," saying, “Even the writer wasn’t confident in his claims. If a journalist cannot confirm a story, the ethical thing to do is to drop it. Publishing unverified information only promotes chaos.”
What actually transpired during the visit was far from scandalous. Senator Buba, known for his humility and generosity, visited Toro to condole with a bereaved family and support the community. During the visit, he made a remarkable donation of N65 million:
- N50 million for the construction of a mosque,
- N5 million to the family of the deceased,
- N5 million for community elders, and
- N5 million for the youth.
“The visit ended peacefully. There was no confrontation or hostility. If anything occurred after his departure, it cannot and should not be attributed to him,” Ori clarified.
In an era where the media holds tremendous power to shape public opinion, Ori urged journalists to uphold the core principles of truth, objectivity, and integrity, especially as Nigeria navigates complex social and economic challenges.
“Journalists have a crucial role to play in national development. Through responsible reporting, they can promote unity and understanding. Unfortunately, some are using their platforms for divisive and malicious agendas,” he lamented.
Ori reaffirmed Senator Buba’s unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and the advancement of Bauchi South and Bauchi State at large. “The Senator remains focused on delivering quality representation and will not be distracted by mischief-makers,” he concluded.
