Governor Bala Mohammed Congratulates Hon. Babangida Maliya on Shira LG By-Election Victory
The political landscape of Bauchi State witnessed yet another milestone in democratic consolidation as Hon. Babangida Ishaq Abdullahi (popularly known as Maliya) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) emerged victorious in the just-concluded Shira Local Government Council by-election.
The election, held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, was conducted by the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) and has been widely commended for its peaceful, credible, and transparent process.
In a statement released shortly after the results were announced, His Excellency, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, CON, FNIPR (Kauran Daular Usmaniyya), the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, extended his heartfelt congratulations to Hon. Maliya, describing his win as “well-deserved” and a reflection of the trust and confidence reposed in him by the people of Shira.
“This victory reflects the confidence the people of Shira have in Hon. Maliya’s leadership and the PDP’s progressive vision,” Governor Mohammed stated. “I urge him to justify this trust by delivering inclusive governance and prioritizing grassroots development.”
The Governor also lauded BASIEC for its professionalism and commitment to upholding democratic principles through free and fair elections. He emphasized that the success of the by-election was a testament to the growing maturity of democratic institutions in the state.
Calling for unity and cooperation, Governor Mohammed urged all political actors and stakeholders to put aside partisan differences and work collectively toward the progress of Bauchi State.
“The task of building a better Bauchi is a shared responsibility,” he said. “We must rise above party lines and work together for the good of our people.”
