False Reports Won’t Drown the Truth – Aide Defends Senator’s Peaceful Visit

By Abdulwahab Muhammad Bauchí

In the fast-paced world of news and social media, falsehoods can spread like wildfire—often leaving the truth scrambling to catch up. Such is the case with the recent wave of misinformation surrounding the condolence visit of Senator Shehu Buba to Toro, Bauchi State.

Aide to the senator, Ibrahim Ori, has strongly refuted reports alleging that Senator Buba was booed during the visit. According to him, the story making rounds is not only baseless but also deliberately crafted to mislead and stir public sentiment.

“We would have ignored the publication, but its tone and repetition of the word ‘alleged’ in almost every paragraph show a lack of journalistic integrity. When a reporter isn’t certain about a story, the professional thing to do is not to publish it,” Ori said.

He described the claims as speculative and mischievous, emphasizing that the visit was both peaceful and impactful. “Senator Buba went to Toro to offer condolences and support. He donated N65 million to various segments of the community, including funds for a mosque, the bereaved family, elders, and youths.”

Breaking down the donation, Ori explained:

  • N50 million for the construction of a mosque,
  • N5 million to support the family of the deceased,
  • N5 million for community elders,
  • N5 million for the youth.

“There was no incident of booing or unrest. If any commotion occurred after his departure, it has no connection to the senator’s visit and should not be falsely attributed to him,” he added.

Ori used the opportunity to remind the media of their responsibility to truth and nation-building. “At a time when Nigeria faces security and economic challenges, the role of journalists should be to foster unity and accurate information—not fan the flames of division with fabricated stories.”

He reaffirmed Senator Buba’s commitment to representing Bauchi South with diligence, transparency, and focus on progress. “No amount of false reporting will derail the senator’s mission. He is answerable to the people, not to mischief-makers.”

In the end, while rumors may make noise, truth carries weight—and as this story proves, it eventually rises above the clamor.
