GOMBE — Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, of Gombe State and Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF), has extended warm felicitations to journalists in Gombe State and across the country as they join the global community in commemorating the 2025 World Press Freedom Day.

In a statement issued by the Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli, the Governor paid tribute to media professionals for their unwavering commitment to truth, transparency, and public enlightenment, describing them as "indispensable partners in the democratic process."

Governor Inuwa Yahaya noted that the theme of this year’s celebration, "Reporting in the Brave New World: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Press Freedom and the Media," aptly captures the evolving media landscape shaped by digital technology and artificial intelligence.

“In the face of rapid technological

advances, the role of the media as watchdogs of society and guardians of public interest remains as crucial as ever,” the Governor stated.

While acknowledging the benefits of emerging technologies, he also cautioned against the inherent risks, including misinformation, fake news, and growing threats to journalists’ safety and credibility.

“The digital age has redefined how information is produced and consumed,” Governor Yahaya remarked. “But it also presents challenges that must be met with responsibility, integrity, and a renewed commitment to ethical journalism.”

He commended the media in Gombe State for their professionalism and their consistent role in promoting democratic ideals through accurate reporting on government policies and global developments.

“Your steadfast commitment to the truth, your relentless pursuit of accountability, and your courageous voices are more vital than ever in our society,” he added.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to press freedom, Governor Inuwa Yahaya assured the media community of continued support and partnership in creating an enabling environment where journalists can work freely and without fear.

“As we celebrate this important day, I urge you to continue to stand firm in the pursuit of a society where information uplifts, empowers, and leaves no one behind,” the Governor concluded.

End.
