Governor Bala Donates N119 Million to Victims’ Families in Alkaleri, Offers Jobs to 2,100 Vigilantes

In a bold and compassionate response to the recent wave of bandit attacks in Alkaleri Local Government Area, Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has donated a total of N119 million to families of victims and members of local vigilante groups who bore the brunt of the violence.

During a solemn condolence visit to his hometown, Duguri, the Governor met with bereaved families from the affected communities in Duguri and Gwana districts, expressing heartfelt sympathy and unwavering solidarity.

Supporting the Families of Fallen Heroes

The Governor announced a detailed support package to ease the pain of those affected:

  • N65 million was allocated to families of the deceased:
    • Each of the 13 vigilante families will receive N5 million
    • Each of the 10 Fulani civilian families will receive N3 million

These civilians, mostly herders, were reportedly killed while trying to protect their rustled cattle.

Empowering Vigilantes on the Frontlines

In addition, Governor Bala unveiled a N20 million support fund for local vigilante groups:

  • N10 million for welfare and operational needs
  • N10 million for logistics, fuel, and basic security tools

But he didn’t stop there. Recognizing the sacrifices of these community defenders, the Governor announced that 500 vigilantes will be offered permanent employment with a monthly salary of N70,000. By the end of 2025, that number will rise to 2,100 employed vigilantes across the state.

“We lost 23 people—10 civilians and 13 brave vigilantes,” Bala said.
“But over 60 of the attackers were also neutralized in a fierce confrontation. Despite their superior firepower, our young men stood their ground with courage and bravery.”

Condemning Informants, Strengthening Security

The Governor condemned the role of criminal informants who aid bandits and called on traditional rulers to help identify and expose them. He reassured citizens of increased support from the Federal Government, particularly through the Office of the National Security Adviser, which has promised to reinforce security operations in Bauchi.

To ensure that all funds are disbursed transparently, a distribution committee has been set up, chaired by the Executive Chairman of Alkaleri LGA, with respected community leaders and security representatives onboard.

“Ready to Remove My Agbada”

In a dramatic show of personal commitment, Governor Bala declared:

“These criminals came to the wrong place. We are ready to sacrifice our lives for our people. I’m even willing to remove my agbada and join the vigilante if that’s what it takes.”

Commendations Roll In

The Governor's swift response was widely praised:

  • Bauchi State Police Commissioner, Sani-Omolori Aliyu (represented by DCP Operations), said the intervention helped ease tension in the area.
  • Chairperson of Alkaleri LGC, Hassan Garba Bajama, thanked the Governor for restoring hope.
  • Traditional rulers of the affected areas pledged their continued support to the state’s security efforts.

Final Thoughts

Governor Bala’s proactive approach—combining financial support, strategic recruitment, and strong community engagement—reflects a leadership style focused on empathy, action, and accountability. In a time of crisis, he’s not just talking the talk; he’s walking the walk.
