NEC Accuses APC of Failing Nigerians, Sets August Date for Convention

By Abdulwahab Muhammad Bauchí

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sounded the alarm over what it describes as deteriorating national conditions under the APC-led Federal Government, blaming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for escalating insecurity, economic hardship, and creeping authoritarianism.

This strong position was articulated during the 99th meeting of the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC), held today, June 27, 2025, in Abuja. The meeting was chaired by Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, who led deliberations on the way forward for the party and the country.

A Nation in Crisis, Says PDP NEC

In its official communiqué, the NEC criticized the ruling party’s handling of the economy and national security, accusing the government of implementing anti-people policies that have plunged millions into poverty, encouraged criminality, and crippled vital sectors of the economy.

Governor Bala, presiding over the session, emphasized the PDP's readiness to provide alternative leadership and rescue Nigeria from what the party called "exploitative misrule."

Convention Preparations in Full Swing

One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the ratification of plans to host the PDP National Convention from August 28 to 30, 2025. The NEC also approved the establishment of two major bodies to steer the process:

  • The National Convention Planning Committee
  • The Zoning Committee

These decisions mark a significant step toward the PDP's broader agenda of internal reorganization, grassroots mobilization, and strategic repositioning ahead of future elections.

Unity and Purpose

Party leaders at the meeting reiterated the PDP’s mission to restore hope, uphold democratic values, and deliver good governance. The NEC pledged to continue engaging Nigerians at all levels while fostering unity within the party.

With Governor Bala Mohammed playing a leading role in shaping the party’s direction, the PDP appears set to regain momentum as a formidable political force ahead of the 2027 general elections.
