Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, joined students and staff of Government Mega College Gombe to commemorate this year’s Children’s Day celebration in an atmosphere filled with joy, encouragement, and inspiration.
The Governor’s visit to the newly upgraded mega school coincided with the global observance of Children’s Day, offering him the opportunity to connect directly with young students and reinforce his administration’s unwavering commitment to education.
A Day of Celebration, A Message of Hope
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Governor Yahaya extended his heartfelt wishes to children in Gombe and across Nigeria, describing Children’s Day as more than a symbolic occasion — but a reminder of government’s duty to protect, empower, and invest in the next generation.
“In Gombe, we believe that every child deserves a chance to dream — and the tools to make those dreams a reality,” he said. “That is why we are building mega schools like this one, to provide you with the best possible environment for learning.”
Education for All, With Focus on the Girl-Child
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s strong commitment to inclusive education, with particular focus on the girl-child. He praised the success of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) programme, which has supported thousands of girls with school supplies, mentorship, and life skills.
“We are determined to break every barrier between our daughters and their dreams,” the Governor declared. “When we educate a girl, we educate a generation. That’s the vision driving our education policies.”
Inspiration and Investment
Governor Inuwa Yahaya encouraged the students to remain disciplined, focused, and determined in their academic pursuits. He assured them that his administration will continue to invest in all aspects of education — from infrastructure to teacher development, curriculum reform, and digital innovation.
“We are not only building schools — we are building futures,” he emphasized.
Touring Progress at Government Mega College
Earlier during the visit, the Governor inspected ongoing construction work at Government Mega College — one of five flagship model schools established to accommodate over 3,000 students each. The facility includes hostels, laboratories, smart classrooms, and staff residences — all aimed at transforming public education standards in Gombe State.
The 2025 Children’s Day celebration in Gombe was not only a moment of joy and festivity but also a reaffirmation of the state government’s resolve to build a brighter future by investing in its most valuable asset — its children.
