National Unity in Action: First Ladies Lead Prayer and Food Drive in Bauchi

By Abdulwahab Muhammad,Bauchi

In a powerful show of unity and compassion, the Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, joined hands with the Wife of the Bauchi State Governor, Hajiya (Dr) Aishatu Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, to host a National Prayer Session for Peace, Unity, and Progress in Bauchi. The event, which also included a generous distribution of food items to vulnerable citizens, was part of the ongoing Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).

Held under the theme “The National Prayer Session for Peace, Unity, and Progress,” the gathering brought together religious leaders, public officials, women and youth groups, and community stakeholders — all united by a common desire: to pray for a better Nigeria.

Prayers, Purpose, and Practical Help

While the event was deeply spiritual, it was also highly practical. Hajiya Aishatu Bala Mohammed, who doubles as the North East Zonal Coordinator of the RHI, explained the motivation behind the initiative.

“This prayer session is more than a ceremony — it's a symbol of our shared hope and resilience,” she said. “Through faith and unity, we can build a peaceful and prosperous future for Bauchi and Nigeria as a whole.”

Following the prayers, essential food items were distributed to those most in need:

  • 2,200 bags of rice (with 500 already distributed)
  • 300 cartons of vegetable oil
  • 1,200 cartons of spaghetti
  • 500 bags of sugar

“While our goal was to provide even more, we are thankful for what we’ve been able to offer and will continue working to reach more people,” she noted.

Empowerment That Goes Beyond Relief

Beyond food distribution, the Renewed Hope Initiative is changing lives through long-term empowerment programs. Among them:

  • Youth Agricultural Support Program: Trained 100 youths and provided N9.2 million in financial support.
  • Women Agricultural Support Program: Empowered 150 women with N36 million in grants.
  • Every Home A Garden Initiative: Equipped 60 women with gardening skills and N9.2 million in startup support.

“These efforts are all about giving people the tools to thrive,” Hajiya Aishatu emphasized. “It’s not just about aid — it’s about empowerment, dignity, and self-reliance.”

A Call for Unity and Sustained Action

Religious clerics who led the prayers commended the initiative and called on government at all levels to do more to support ordinary Nigerians. They offered heartfelt prayers for the country — asking for an end to insecurity, economic hardship, and disunity.

“Our strength lies in our unity, and faith is a powerful force for change,” said Hajiya Aishatu. “We pray not only for Bauchi but for every corner of this great nation.”

As the event came to a close, one thing was clear: when leaders show up with compassion, prayer, and action, hope becomes more than a slogan — it becomes reality.
