Bauchi Applauds Zero Dose Learning Hub, CoP for Boosting Immunization Uptake
By Ahmed Ahmed | Bauchi
The Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Board (BSPHCDB) has commended the efforts of the Zero Dose Learning Hub (ZDLH) and its Community of Practice (CoP), with support from the African Health Budget Network (AHBN), for their impactful contributions to improving immunization uptake and tracking in the state.
The commendation was given by the Executive Chairman of the Board, Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed, during a press briefing held shortly after the unveiling and validation of the new ZDLH Immunization Scorecard on Friday in Bauchi.
Dr. Mohammed revealed that out of the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state, 13 are still categorized as zero-dose areas—regions where children have not received any form of routine vaccination.
He, however, noted that the state has ramped up its surveillance efforts, and lauded the ZDLH State Team and development partners for their collaborative approach, which has significantly improved immunization coverage and detection of zero-dose areas across Bauchi.
He emphasized the relevance of the new scorecard, describing it as a crucial tool for strengthening routine immunization. He added that observations made by stakeholders during the validation exercise would be factored into the final version of the scorecard before it is publicly released.
Dr. Mohammed also urged members of the Community of Practice to intensify their efforts in ensuring that immunization services reach every eligible child across Bauchi State.
Strategic Advocacy to Reach Zero-Dose Children
In his remarks, Dr. Adamu Mohammed, Co-chair of the ZDLH CoP and Director of Disease Control at the Board, explained that with the support of AHBN, the Community of Practice has adopted strategic advocacy and resource mobilization approaches to reduce the number of zero-dose children in the state.
He also highlighted the role of the CoP in budget tracking and promoting accountability, which he said are crucial to strengthening immunization systems and ensuring that funds are appropriately utilized.
Development Partners Commend State Commitment
Dr. Habila Ismaila, State Lead for the African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET), expressed appreciation to AHBN for its pivotal role within the ZDLH consortium. He praised the leadership of the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Board, the state implementation team, and all development partners for their constructive collaboration and dedication throughout the project’s rollout.
The unveiling of the ZDLH Scorecard marks another step toward eliminating zero-dose cases in Bauchi State and enhancing the health and well-being of children across the region.
