Governor Inuwa Yahaya Clinches NUJ 'Media-Friendly Governor' Award at 70th Anniversary Event

Abuja, 22nd June 2025 — The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has honoured Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, with the prestigious “Media-Friendly Governor of the Year” Award, in recognition of his administration’s unwavering commitment to press freedom, open governance, and constructive engagement with the media.

The award was presented during the NUJ 70th Anniversary Gala, Award Night, and Book Presentation, held at the Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja. The high-profile event was chaired by veteran journalist and former Ogun State Governor, Chief Segun Osoba, and graced by dignitaries from government, the media, and civil society.

Represented by the Commissioner for Environment, Water and Forest Resources, Hon. Mohammed Saidu Fawu, Governor Inuwa Yahaya expressed deep appreciation for the recognition, dedicating the award to journalists and citizens of Gombe State.

“I am humbled and honoured to receive this prestigious recognition. I dedicate this award to the tireless media professionals in Gombe State who continue to uphold truth, transparency, and the principles of responsible journalism. We will continue to work together to build a better society through open communication and accountability,” the governor said in his message.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya also congratulated the NUJ on its 70th anniversary and commended the Union’s National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, for his purposeful leadership and professionalism.

In a goodwill message on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, applauded the NUJ for its contributions to democracy and good governance in Nigeria. He described journalists as “indispensable partners in national development” and urged the media to remain steadfast in upholding ethics and professionalism.

The NUJ President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, noted that the awards were in recognition of the recipients’ outstanding contributions to journalism and societal advancement.

Governors of Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Imo, Borno, Kano, Ondo, and Oyo States also received various categories of awards at the ceremony.
