From Classroom to Greatness: GG Nabordo Sends Off Future Women Leaders
By Beatrice Gondyi, Bauchi
In a vibrant celebration of achievement, resilience, and ambition, Government Girls College (GGC) Nabordo, Bauchi State, hosted its annual Speech and Prize-Giving Day cum Graduation Ceremony, with the inspiring theme: “An Educated Woman Is Gold.”
Held in the school’s multipurpose assembly hall, the occasion brought together students, proud parents, dedicated teachers, alumni, and government representatives—all united in honoring the graduating Class of 2025, a cohort of 200 young women poised to make their mark in the world.
Principal’s Address: Celebration and Challenge
The Principal, Mrs. Rakiya Hussaini, opened the ceremony with a moving welcome speech, congratulating the students for their determination and hard work. She noted the impressive academic performance of the graduating class, while also highlighting some critical challenges facing the institution.
“Today is a celebration of your strength, resilience, and determination. Many have fled along the way, but you endured. You should be proud of yourselves,” she declared.
Mrs. Hussaini called on the State Ministry of Education to address pressing infrastructural needs including the absence of a digital library, school bus, and the collapsed perimeter fence—all essential for enhancing the learning environment.
“As you leave here, remember that your choices matter, your dreams are valid, and your potential is limitless. Don’t let anyone or anything hold you back,” she advised the graduates.
Keynote: ‘You Are Gold’
The keynote speaker, Professor Zainab Bauchi, a respected educationist and champion of girls' empowerment, delivered a passionate speech that captivated the audience. Drawing from her own journey and heritage as a teacher, she urged the girls to recognize the power of education.
“An educated woman is gold. Education is light. It is a compass that helps you find direction. Education gives you a voice,” she said.
She praised the teachers for their devotion and reminded the graduates that their worth is not in outward appearance but in their knowledge and inner strength.
“You are gold, not because of your clothes or your accent, but because you have been educated. And gold does not fade—it only becomes more valuable,” she said with conviction.
“You are not the future. You are the foundation of the future. An educated woman is not a burden—she is a builder.”
Voices of the Day: Unity, Emotion, and Promise
The cultural segment of the event featured vibrant displays of traditional dances and exhibitions of handmade products and crafts by the students, reflecting not only creativity but a spirit of entrepreneurship.
The outgoing Head Girl, in an emotional valedictory speech, thanked her teachers, classmates, and parents for their support and encouragement.
“We came here with dreams,” she said. “Now, we step into the world with direction, purpose, and dignity.”
Government Commendation and Commitment
In his goodwill message, the Commissioner for Education, Mohammed Lawan, represented by Permanent Secretary Ali Babayo Gamawa, praised the school’s efforts in producing academically sound and morally upright young women.
“GG Nabordo continues to set the pace in girl-child education. You are not just students—you are future leaders,” he said.
The Ministry, he assured, has taken note of the school’s needs and will work toward addressing them.
Closing Highlights: Celebrating Excellence
The day concluded with prize and award presentations to outstanding students across various disciplines and leadership categories. Parents, teachers, and special guests commended the school for shaping the lives of their daughters and instilling values that transcend the classroom.
As the sun set over Nabordo, the ceremony symbolized more than the end of a school year—it marked the beginning of a new journey. These young women are not just leaving school; they are stepping confidently into a future filled with hope, ambition, and limitless potential.
