Northern Governors Mourn Aminu Dantata, Hail His Legacy as a Pillar of Nigerian Enterprise

The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has expressed profound grief over the passing of Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, a legendary Nigerian business icon and philanthropist, who died at the age of 94.
In a tribute issued by the Chairman of the NSGF and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, the governors described the loss as a monumental blow to the nation, marking the end of a transformative era in Nigeria’s economic history.
“It is with profound sorrow and a deep sense of national loss that I, on behalf of the Government and people of Gombe State, as well as the Northern States Governors' Forum, mourn the passing of elder statesman and one of Africa’s most accomplished businessmen and philanthropists, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata,” Governor Inuwa Yahaya stated.
A Legacy of Visionary Leadership and Humility
Born in Kano, Alhaji Aminu Dantata rose to become one of the most influential figures in Nigeria’s private sector. Governor Inuwa Yahaya noted that the deceased was a towering figure whose life reflected visionary enterprise, uncommon generosity, and deep commitment to national development.
“Alhaji Aminu Dantata belonged to a class of extraordinary individuals who shaped the course of Nigeria’s economic journey through investment, innovation, and compassion,” he said.
The Governor highlighted that Dantata’s contributions to the socio-economic advancement of Northern Nigeria and the country at large remain monumental and timeless.
“We have lost a pillar of support, a source of wisdom, and a true elder statesman who inspired generations.”
A National Mourning
The NSGF Chairman extended heartfelt condolences to the Dantata family, the Government and people of Kano State, and Nigerians at large, praying to Almighty Allah (SWT) to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased and reward his decades of service with Aljannatul Firdaus.
Alhaji Aminu Dantata will be remembered not just for his business acumen, but for his philanthropic spirit, dedication to Islam, and nation-building efforts that spanned generations.
